PUTTING OUR HANDS TO PLOW… LITERALLY!

What we are up to!

Our Initiatives

  • The People's Pantry

A 24/7 access community fridge and pantry that seeks to bring free and healthy food to Walker County and its communities. This initiative is dedicated to combating the lack of consistent, reliable access to fresh food by bringing awareness to food apartheid within the Walker County area and providing immediate relief to our neighbors in need through acts of solidarity. This program launched in the Summer of 2021, with a pilot Free-Fridge in the Town of Parrish (Address: 6484 AL-269, Parrish, AL 35580.)

  • Reclamation Gardens

Jubilee House is currently working to establish a community farm by transforming vacant land in our town that was formerly the old high school's football field. This initiative will work to supply locally grown food to our neighbors as a means of combating food insecurity while working to develop, social, economic, and environmental benefits and connections for the mutual flourishing of the peoples in our town and surrounding communities.

  • Walker County Free Store+ Mutual Aid

The Walker County Free Store and Mutual Aid exists to create space for autonomous relief organizing based on the principles of mutual aid, solidarity, and direct action. The Walker County Free Store is located in the Old Parrish High School Library and is open to the public twice a month.

  • The Jubilee Fund

The Jubilee Fund is a project centered on participating in the radical call of debt forgiveness given to us by Jesus. This fund will exist solely to help folks in our community pay down their debts and provide direct financial assistance to those living under the burden of poverty. We are designing this project to be more than a benevolence fund, as we seek to work to help folks recognize all of the various factors that are keeping them in poverty, and then coming alongside them to help remove those barriers through solidarity, rather than charity.

  • Spiritual Direction

DescriptionThe south is a complicated place when it comes to faith and religion. So much of what gets passed off as genuinely Christian or healthy religion is quite often the exact opposite, and we want to offer an alternative. We hope to be able to provide space for folks to explore their faith (or lack thereof), religious baggage, and general life circumstances in a non-judgmental fully affirming environment alongside a trained spiritual director. Spiritual direction is all about becoming more aware of our connection to the good, the true, and the beautiful as we learn to savor the goodness in our lives, and sort out difficult life situations and choices through discernment.

  • Project H.E.R.O

Project H.E.R.O. is a harm reduction initiative seeking to establish multiple free naloxone vending machines across Walker County to provide readily accessible emergency naloxone, and test strips directly to those who are suffering the most under the weight of the opioid epidemic in hopes of preventing opioid related overdoses and death.
