The Peopleβs Pantry is the seed that would eventually blossom into Jubilee House! Planted in Parrish, the Peopleβs pantry is a community pantry and fridge dedicated to providing free food to Parrish, and its surrounding communities. Unlike traditional food banks, the Peopleβs pantry operates 24/7 and invites the community of Parrish to join together to care for the hungry together by combating the lack of consistent, reliable access to food and bringing awareness to the malady of hunger that ravages our neighborhoods. You can learn more about this project on ABC 33/40, CBS 42, and over at The Walker Magazine.
20% of our community lives in FOOD insecurity!
Core Tenets
Mutual Aid β This entails people supporting people horizontally. A reciprocal exchange. Solidarity, not Charity.
Community β The individuals stocking and cleaning the fridge are using it as well. Working to connect with other community members who want to support the efforts.
Open Communication β We want to hear from people who are using the pantry; this includes criticisms and suggestions for improvement.
Left Hand Approach β Jesus of Nazareth said βWhen you give, do not let your left hand know what your right hand gives.β The People's Pantry is not a tool for self-promotion of any individual, church, or organization.
***Please no home packaged goods or expired foods (including cans)!***
βIt is a radical act to bypass the system to help your neighbor.β
